How to use SMB Connection Strings on Mac

If you are connecting to a network server or shared folder from your Mac, you may need to use an SMB connection string to correctly identify the location on your network.

SMB connection strings define how your Mac accesses shared folders on Windows PCs, NAS drives, Linux servers, and other network storage devices.

The following examples show how to convert various connection strings for use by FileBrowser.

Example 1

A UNC path used with Windows Explorer, such as
\\server\share\folder1\folder2

Example 2

A URL used with Mac Finder, such as
smb://server/share/folder1/folder2

Example 3

A URL containing a fully-qualified server name, such as
smb://server.company.com/share/folder1/folder2
