Find IP Address on Windows XP
FileBrowser can connect to Windows XP computers using either the computer name or the IP address.
If the computer name is not working and you get the error "Can't find server", using the IP address is often the most reliable way to connect.
This guide shows you how to quickly find the IP address of a Windows XP PC.
If you start a Command Prompt via the Windows start menu->All Programs->Accessories->CommandPrompt, a window with a black background should appear, if you enter the command "ipconfig" into it and press the Return key, you should get output similar to the following:
Windows IP Configuration
Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.12
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1
The "IP Address" is the information we're looking for, and is four numbers separated by dot characters, so is "192.168.1.12" in the example above.
Please enter the IP address into FileBrowser's "Name or URL" field and try to connect again.
