Installing the Windows client

Install ZeroTier

Download the Windows installer package "ZeroTier One.msi" from the Zerotier Download page here:

These steps are for windows 11 they are the same as Windows 10. Additional steps have been included for Windows 7.

Install the package and click "Install" when prompted to install the device software.

Open the Zerotier app on Windows

When you launch the ZeroTier app you should see the app icon in the bottom-right status bar. App Icon

Click this and choose "Join New Network...".

Enter your ZeroTier "Network ID" you got from the previous step into the popup window and click "Join".

If you are using Windows 11 continue.

Windows 10 pops up the following warning. Click "Yes" if you are installing this on your home or work PC.

Windows 7

If you are using Windows 7 select "Home" or "Work" as appropriate.

If you now click the ZeroTier icon, you should see a tick next to the network ID.

Make a note of the "My Address: ##########" number as you will need this next.

Your Windows PC needs to be authorised on the zerotier website before you can continue. Click the "Networks" tab on the ZeroTier web page then select your Network from the list. The list shows devices that are either active on the network or are wanting to connect.

Find the Windows device that says "Not Authorized". This should have a "Device ID" that matches your "My Address" number.

To authorize it, click it to see the details then:

  1. Give it a "Device Name" such as "Windows PC" this will help you keep track of all your devices.
  2. Enable the "Device Authorized" switch.
  3. Scroll down to the bottom of "Device Details" and click "Save".

Click the Back button to go back to the Member Devices list.

Make a note of the "ZT IP" address. We will use this IPv4 address in FileBrowser later to connect to your PC.

From the ZeroTier client app "Preferences..." menu item you can enable "Start ZeroTier One on system startup" to save you having to find the app each time you need it.

Your Windows PC is now authorized on your Zerotier network. Next connect and authorize your iPad/iPhone devices.
